UPDATE ON CLEANUP/REPAIR AND WORK SCHEDULE

After working through the past weekend, we believe we have a clear picture of the extent of damage from last week’s vandalism.  As you know, we began cleanup and repairs immediately last Wednesday, and those repairs have continued every day since.  Material had to be sent to labs to be tested to determine the extent of contamination.  We now know that the contamination is extensive.  It will require work through this week and weekend to complete the needed repairs.  We hope to return the plant to operation early next week.  We will update you later in the week about your department’s work schedule for next week.  You should be ready to come to work as scheduled Monday morning February 15th; we will inform you by Friday of this week whether your department will work Monday.

PAY INFORMATION

Regular weekly paychecks for full time employees will be ready this Friday in the personnel office at 11:00 a.m.  If you were present for work during your regular shifts last Monday and Tuesday (February 1st and 2nd) but did not work 32 hours total last week, you will still be paid for 32 hours.  If you missed work on Monday or Tuesday, you will be paid for 32 hours less the time you were absent.  If you worked more than 32 hours last week, you will be paid for the hours you worked.  Your regular attendance bonus check will also be ready this Friday at 11:00 a.m., and it will be paid for the hours you were qualified and worked.

Full time employees whose departments are not working this week (February 8 – 12) will still receive a paycheck next Friday (February 19th) for 32 hours.  Of course, anyone working more than 32 hours will be paid for the hours they worked.

You should not expect to qualify for unemployment in any week you are paid for 32 hours or more.

Before our 1st shift began Wednesday morning February 3rd, we discovered that our pump house and other finishing room equipment had been vandalized.  The Galax Police Department immediately was called in and began a full investigation.  They have made an arrest.
There was significant damage.  Cleanup and repairs were begun immediately.  These repairs will continue through this weekend and into the first part of next week.  We are doing everything possible to get the entire plant back up and running as soon as possible.  At this time, we know that we will not work most of the plant Monday 2/8 and Tuesday 2/9.  Any employees required to work those days will be notified today.  By Monday we will know more about when we can return the entire plant to our full work schedule.

This morning we discovered that our pump house and other finishing equipment had been vandalized.  The Galax Police Department is conducting a full investigation.  We have significant cleanup and repair work to complete, and we have to replace much of our finishing material before we can resume production.  We will keep you informed of your work schedule.  1st shift rough end cutoff, glue machines, plane and rip will work tomorrow-Thursday.  Shipping will also work. The rest of the factory will not work the rest of this week.
We will inform you as soon as we know what our schedule will be next week.  We have already begun cleanup and repair work, and we will work to get back up and running as soon as possible.  We have contacted the VEC, and they have computers available for V-B employees to file for unemployment this week.
